Important: Outdoor Wear & Weather Readiness
Outdoor play is an important part of the daily program at Mrs. Victoria's Home Daycare. Children should arrive prepared to go outside every day unless weather conditions are unsafe.
Outdoor time supports children's physical health, emotional regulation, confidence, curiosity, and learning through play. Because the program includes outdoor time in many types of weather, proper clothing is required for every child's comfort and safety.
Parent responsibility
Parents/guardians are responsible for providing weather-appropriate clothing and ensuring all items are labelled with the child's name. Children must be dressed and packed for the weather each day. If a child is not prepared for outdoor play, Victoria may contact parents to bring the required items. Repeatedly arriving without proper outdoor clothing may result in a parent conversation, as it affects the child's ability to participate in the program and can impact the whole group.
Required Items by Season
All Year
- Labelled water bottle
- Indoor shoes
- Weather-appropriate outdoor shoes
- Full extra outfit, including socks and underwear
- Backpack or daycare bag
Spring / Fall
- Rain boots
- Splash pants or rain suit
- Sweater or hoodie
- Light jacket
- Hat and mittens when needed
Winter
- Winter coat
- Snow pants
- Waterproof winter boots
- Warm hat
- Neck warmer
- Two pairs of waterproof mittens
- Extra socks
For safety, please avoid long scarves.
Summer
- Sun hat
- Closed-toe shoes or secure sandals with a back strap
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray
- Swimsuit and towel when requested for water play
Sunscreen and bug spray
Parents do not need to apply sunscreen or bug spray before daycare unless they choose to. With written parent permission, Victoria may apply sunscreen and/or bug spray during the daycare day. If a child requires a particular brand, parents must provide that product clearly labelled with the child's name.
Outdoor participation
Children must be well enough and prepared enough to participate in the regular daycare routine, including outdoor play. "Inside only" care is not available for children who are too unwell or unprepared to go outside.
