Program & Philosophy

Mrs. Victoria's Home Daycare is built around the belief that children learn best when they feel safe, connected, respected, and free to explore. The program is warm, play-based, and child-led, with a strong focus on outdoor play, routines, independence, and meaningful relationships.

Our view of children

Children are capable, curious, creative, and full of potential. At Mrs. Victoria's Home Daycare, children are not rushed through childhood. They are given time to play, wonder, practice new skills, ask questions, make choices, and build confidence through everyday experiences.

Play-based learning

Play is a child's natural way of learning. Through play, children build language, problem-solving skills, creativity, coordination, independence, and social-emotional understanding. The daycare environment includes opportunities for sensory play, art, music, stories, building, dramatic play, movement, outdoor exploration, and quiet moments.

Child-led exploration

Victoria follows the children's interests and uses those interests to guide learning experiences. A child's curiosity might lead to a nature walk, a sensory bin, a story, an art invitation, a building project, or a conversation. This approach helps children feel engaged and respected while supporting their development in a natural way.

Outdoor play and nature

Outdoor play is an important part of the program. Children need time to move, explore, observe, climb, run, dig, collect, balance, and experience the changing seasons. Outdoor time supports physical development, emotional regulation, confidence, curiosity, and connection to the world around them.

Routines that help children feel secure

Predictable routines help children feel safe. The daycare day includes regular rhythms for arrival, play, outdoor time, meals, rest, transitions, and pickup. While the schedule may change based on weather and children's needs, the overall routine gives children a sense of comfort and consistency.

Social-emotional development

Children are supported as they learn to share space with others, express feelings, solve problems, wait, take turns, ask for help, and build friendships. Victoria uses calm guidance, age-appropriate expectations, and respectful communication to help children develop confidence and kindness.

Partnership with families

Families and provider are on the same team. We are all working toward the same goal: supporting the child. Open, respectful communication helps children feel secure and helps parents feel informed and included.

ECE-style programming in a home daycare setting

Mrs. Victoria's Home Daycare is built to give children the benefits of intentional early childhood programming while still offering the comfort and closeness of a small home daycare. The program is play-based, but it is not random. Victoria plans daily and weekly experiences that support children's development in a natural, age-appropriate way.

Children are introduced to early learning through books, music, movement, art, sensory play, science, outdoor exploration, routines, conversations, and hands-on activities. Children learn through play, but the play is intentional — supporting early literacy, early math, movement, creativity, curiosity, independence, social skills, and confidence before Junior Kindergarten.

Daily and weekly learning experiences

The daycare week includes a variety of planned experiences that help children learn, explore, and grow.

Daily Reading

Children read every day and explore books of the week to build vocabulary, listening skills, story understanding, attention, and a love of books.

Daily Music

Music is part of the daily rhythm through songs, rhymes, movement, rhythm, transitions, and group time.

Weekly Dance and Movement

Dance and movement activities help children develop coordination, confidence, rhythm, body awareness, listening skills, and joy in movement.

Weekly Science and Discovery

Simple science and discovery activities encourage children to ask questions, observe, explore, predict, test ideas, and notice the world around them.

Art and Creativity

Children explore drawing, painting, colouring, open-ended materials, seasonal crafts, and creative expression.

Sensory Play

Sensory activities support curiosity, fine motor development, language, problem-solving, and calm focused play.

Early Literacy

Children work with stories, songs, letters, names, rhymes, vocabulary, and early mark-making.

Early Math

Children practice counting, sorting, matching, patterns, shapes, colours, comparing, and counting objects through play.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor play supports movement, nature exploration, confidence, emotional regulation, and independence.

Independence and School Routines

Children practice dressing for outdoors, managing winter gear, washing hands, cleaning up, following routines, asking for help, and caring for belongings.

This combination allows children to receive meaningful early learning experiences while still feeling the security and comfort of a home environment.

More than academics: a full school-readiness program

School readiness is more than knowing letters and numbers. At Mrs. Victoria's Home Daycare, children build early academic skills, independence, social confidence, communication, fine motor skills, routines, and curiosity through a balanced ECE-style program.
